The people behind the suits

Meet the team.

Whether you're commissioning your first made-to-measure suit or have been wearing tailored clothing for decades, the experience should feel personal, relaxed and enjoyable. That's why we think it helps to know a little about the people you'll actually meet.

Max and Tess at Savile Row Company
Before you visit

A great suit starts with great tailoring. But it also starts with a conversation.

Our team brings decades of experience across Savile Row, luxury menswear and made-to-measure tailoring. But you don't need to know anything about tailoring before you walk through the door.

That's our job.

30Years in luxury menswear
and tailoring

Max has spent 30 years in luxury menswear, including almost 20 years on Savile Row with 40 Savile Row and Savile Row Company Custom Made.

His career began at Harrods, where he worked with Camel Trophy before managing the new Gucci department during the Tom Ford era. He went on to run the Ermenegildo Zegna concession, gaining extensive experience in ready-to-wear and made-to-measure, before joining Brioni's Mayfair flagship as Deputy Director. His time with Brioni included specialist tailoring training in Penne, Italy, and working with the Casino Royale production team on Daniel Craig's first Bond wardrobe.

In 2007, Max joined 40 Savile Row, where he has remained ever since, helping shape the business as it evolved into Savile Row Custom Made.

Max specialises in made-to-measure, with a particular talent for understanding how a pattern needs to work for the individual. He has a keen eye for posture, asymmetry and proportion, translating these details into precise pattern adjustments for a more balanced, personal fit.

After more than 20 years with the same manufacturing partners, he knows how far made-to-measure can be pushed and, where needed, can introduce bespoke detailing and additional alterations with our Savile Row tailors.

He also has a strong eye for cloth, colour and proportion, always considering how the complete outfit — from suit and shirt to tie and shoes — works together.

For Max, great tailoring starts with a conversation. He listens to what clients like, considers how they live and dress, and uses his experience to guide them towards choices that work for them.

Whether it's selecting a cloth, refining a cut or deciding what to wear for a particular occasion, clients value his honest opinion. He'll make a recommendation when he thinks something could work better, but always leaves the final decision with the client.

The most satisfying part, he says, is seeing a finished garment come together and knowing it feels right for the person wearing it. Many clients have returned to Max for years, trusting his advice for everything from their next suit to their next big occasion.

25+Years in luxury
tailoring

Tess has spent more than 25 years on Savile Row, having joined Savile Row Company in 2001. She learnt her craft from the ground up, building her knowledge alongside experienced tailors and cloth merchants while developing lasting relationships with generations of clients.

Having started her career outside tailoring, Tess forged her own path on the Row at a time when relatively few women worked in the industry. Her experience across men's, women's and children's clothing has given her a broad perspective on fit, proportion, cloth and style, as well as an instinctive understanding of how clothing needs to work for the individual.

Over the years, she has worked with clients of all ages and backgrounds, from those looking for timeless wardrobe staples to those wanting something more individual. Her focus has always been the same: creating clothes that look right, feel comfortable and suit the person wearing them.

Tess has a natural eye for fit and proportion and believes the best tailoring should feel effortless. She takes time to understand how a client wants to wear a garment, considering their personal style, shape and lifestyle before guiding them through the choices involved.

Her own approach to styling is clean and considered. She favours simplicity in a suit, while enjoying subtle patterns, interesting textures and innovative fabrics that give a classic garment its individuality without compromising its timelessness.

Her experience across all types of tailoring has also taught her that there is no single definition of the perfect fit. For Tess, it is about finding the right balance between structure, comfort and the way someone naturally carries themselves.

For Tess, tailoring begins with understanding the individual. She believes an appointment should feel collaborative, giving clients the space to explain what they like, what they feel comfortable wearing and what they might be open to trying.

She is particularly passionate about helping clients make confident choices without making the process feel complicated. Whether selecting a cloth, refining a jacket or introducing a subtle pattern, she uses her experience to guide clients while keeping the final result personal to them.

Her approach is considered rather than prescriptive. Some clients know exactly what they want; others value having someone they trust introduce them to something new. Tess enjoys both, particularly those small details that make a finished garment feel distinctly its owner's.

Come and meet us

The easiest way to understand our approach to tailoring is to come and meet us. You don't need to know your preferred cloth or understand the finer points of tailoring. Tell us what you need, what you normally wear, where you want to wear it and what you like — or don't like.

We'll take it from there.
